Roller pumps are kind of looked at as old school, and no one uses them. Having only used centrifugal pumps, I cant imagine a reason to use roller pumps, personally. They have all the downsides you mentioned, plus you have to be worried about pressurizing your lines. Centrifugal pumps you can just clamp anywhere and not have to worry about it.
